Who I Am
I come from a family of educators. I taught K-12 for a total of 8 years and even homeschooled my daughter for 4 years and lead a homeschool group.
While I stayed home with my daughter for a number of years, I also had my own part time sales based business for many years as a Creative Memories Senior Unit Leader with at one time 140 consultants in my down line. It was here I started to discovered the depth of my creative skills – from creating great layout designs and handouts to help my customers get excited to use new products to planning fun theme events for my team and my customers. I also discovered I really enjoyed speaking and presenting on things about which I’m passionate. I eventually went back to work full-time but continued my part-time business for another six years.
When I returned to full-time work I worked on a university healthcare campus in the medical coding education department. It was here I started working in a Learning Management System (LMS) and was exposed to eLearning. When I was introduce to Captivate, it was love at first sight. While I enjoyed working in an LMS, I felt I’d finally found what I was meant to do with eLearning.
In 2016 I decided to pursue my Masters in Instructional Design & Technology with a concentration in adults. As there were no full time Instructional Designer positions with my employer, I ended up leaving the company to pursue full time ID work with one of the leading providers of software, data, and analytics for mortgages and loans. This job really allowed me the opportunity to grow and develop on so many levels as an instructional designer. If I could make it there, I could pretty much make it anywhere as an ID – as the song says 🙂
In 2023 I had the opportunity to follow my passion and take an 100% eLearning content development position working for a global project management software company. This job afforded me the opportunity to further develop my skill in Articulate which seems to be the preferred eLearning software for many employers (I get it – it is much easier to learn). My role here was primarily an individual contributor. We completely revamped and redesigned our courses for a fresh visual design, animation, and interactivity. And when that was done, the company rebranded, so we did it all again. Due to a department re-organization I was laid off with about 1/3 of the team in October 2023.
I eventually landed an amazing role with an Environmental Health Safety & Sustainability firm in early 2024 as an eLearning developer. It has been a dream job – allowing me to further develop my Articulate skills as well as use other tools like Camtasia and the All New Adobe Captivate. I have created eLearning courses for major software companies, engineering firms, office supply companies, social media companies, beauty supply companies, security companies etc. Many company names you would recognize but I can’t list here. I’ve created over 70+ courses in Storyline and Articulate on a wide variety of health , safety, and sustainability topics. I also am on the AI Training Task Force for the company. I have researched and tested out numerous AI course development and AI image generation tools.
FUN FACT:
I love public speaking! I know most people fear public speaking almost as much as death, but I found I really enjoy the challenge of trying to make the training/presentation interesting and engaging the listeners. The highlight of my speaking career was doing a 12 minute motivational speech on mainstage at the CM Regional Convention. I felt very prepared to do this because I had completed my Toastmaster’s Competent Toastmaster training and worked with my Toastmaster’s mentor. I had a blast!
